Africa is making waves on the global tech stage with the debut of the Maa App, an AI-powered digital pregnancy companion, at the prestigious Bolt.new World’s Largest Hackathon. With over 100,000 participants worldwide, the competition brings together top minds to solve real-world challenges using cutting-edge technology.
Developed by Dr. Abena Jim-Annan, a clinical pharmacist, and Ms. Aseda Addai-Deseh, a data scientist, the Maa App is designed to support African mothers throughout pregnancy and early child care.
The app offers: • Trusted health advice curated by medical professionals • AI-powered milestone tracking from conception to early childhood • Personalized care reminders to help mothers manage essential health checks
“Our vision with Maa is to give African mothers a reliable, accessible tool to guide them through the incredible journey of motherhood,” said Dr. Abena Jim-Annan, Clinical Pharmacist and co-founder.
“By combining health expertise with technology, we’re building a platform that can scale across the continent and truly impact maternal and child outcomes,” added Ms. Aseda Addai-Deseh, Data Scientist and co-founder.
Maternal Health Is at the Heart of Maa
Maternal and child health remains a critical issue across Africa, where access to timely and accurate medical information can save lives. The Maa App seeks to bridge that gap using AI to empower women with knowledge and tools that improve outcomes for both mothers and babies.
The team is inviting AI enthusiasts, health advocates, and supporters across Africa and beyond to rally behind this homegrown innovation as it competes on Bolt’s global stage. They are currently pushing for their first 500 waitlist sign-ups to build a strong early community of mothers and caregivers ready to experience the app. Visit https://bit.ly/MaaAppWaitlist to join the list.
