Accra, Ghana – The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has imposed a GH₵10,000 daily fine on MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv, for failing to submit detailed pricing data requested by government regulators.

According to Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George (MP), DStv missed its extended deadline of 11 August 2025 to provide a full breakdown of subscription costs, including taxes and price comparisons with other African countries. Under the Electronic Communications Act, each day of delay attracts a statutory penalty of GH₵10,000.

The Ministry explained that the fine is separate from ongoing talks over DStv subscription fees, which government has described as disproportionately high compared to neighboring markets. If no agreement is reached by 6 September 2025, DStv’s operating licence in Ghana could be suspended.

Minister George also warned that the government may freeze the company’s accounts if the required data is not provided promptly. Once the information is submitted, regulators will review whether taxes or other factors are driving the high costs and take steps to make pay-TV services more affordable for Ghanaian consumers.
