Ghana’s bold One Million Coders Initiative, launched by former President John Dramani Mahama, is making steady progress with 850 youth already trained across Accra, Kumasi, Bolgatanga, and Sunyani.

The update was provided by Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, during the Girls-in-ICT 2025 climax event held in Ho. The programme, which aims to equip one million Ghanaians with advanced digital skills, focuses on coding, game development, cybersecurity, and more.

“These aren’t just numbers,” the Minister said. “They represent lives changed and communities empowered.”

The Minister also highlighted government plans to introduce 15 new ICT-related bills in Parliament to align Ghana’s digital policies with international standards. These bills are expected to support youth-focused digital initiatives, regulate AI, and strengthen data governance.

As Ghana builds a digital-first economy, the One Million Coders programme remains a critical pillar in creating jobs, fostering innovation, and strengthening the country’s position in Africa’s growing tech landscape.
