Telcos Boost Data Value Packages As Ghana Pushes for Better Digital Access
Starting July 1, 2025, Ghana’s leading telecom operators will roll out enhanced data value packages, according to an announcement by Hon. Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation.
The improved offers include:
• Telecel: GH₵400 now gives 250GB, up from 190GB
• AirtelTigo: GH₵399 now offers 235GB, up from 192GB
• MTN: GH₵399 now provides 104GB, up from 92GB
The Minister made the announcement at the Girls-in-ICT 2025 closing event in Ho, highlighting the importance of affordable internet access in powering digital inclusion. He also revealed that new service quality benchmarks have been set for telcos, with a December 31, 2025 deadline. Companies failing to meet the targets face significant regulatory penalties.
Additionally, spectrum allocations have been approved for MTN and Telecel to address persistent network quality concerns in underserved areas like the Volta Region, following advocacy from Regional Minister Hon. James Gunu.
The new data plans are expected to benefit students, entrepreneurs, and digital professionals—especially as Ghana scales up major initiatives like One Million Coders and the Girls-in-ICT programme.
