MTN Group has launched a major initiative to enhance online safety for children across Africa, as part of its broader commitment to responsible digital citizenship. The telecoms giant is collaborating with industry partners, regulators, and civil society to address growing concerns about the exposure of minors to online threats, including cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and exploitation.
The initiative focuses on:
Promoting awareness campaigns to educate parents, educators, and children on safe digital practices Developing technical solutions within MTN’s services to block harmful content and enable parental controls Supporting policy advocacy to strengthen child protection laws across MTN’s African markets

“As more young people across Africa connect to the internet, it is essential that we help create a safe and inclusive online environment,” said an MTN spokesperson.
🌍 A Pan-African Effort
MTN’s push for safer internet aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and regional frameworks aimed at protecting children’s rights in the digital age. The company is working closely with regulatory bodies in key markets including Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, and Uganda to roll out its programmes.
MTN plans to extend the initiative to rural and underserved communities where digital literacy gaps can make children especially vulnerable to online risks.
